Welcome to Mr. Blanshine's classroom newsletter! I'll be updating and adding to this every couple of weeks so that we can all stay up to date on what the students are learning, upcoming events and goals the students have achieved!
During the first few weeks of school the students will start our Math unit, Landmark and Large Numbers. They will learn various strategies to add large numbers. In the coming weeks I hope to add videos to share strategies with you such as using a number line, making 10's, "traditional" style and using place value. In Language Arts, we will concentrate on fictional stories and discuss story elements. We will use the story elements to create a summary. We will discuss how a summary of a story is similar to a preview of a movie.
In my classroom we use a couple websites every week and some daily. I would love if you took a moment to familiarize yourself with them. www.classdojo.com is a great website that helps me keep you informed of your student's progress in the classroom. I try to post pictures and videos of students working as much as possible. Students also collect their work on this website and create their own work portfolios. Another website I use often is www.prodigygame.com because it mixes gaming with individualized math skills that the students need to improve. Don't be surprised when you see your child working on math problems during the weekend because they want to play this game!
Again, thank you for visiting the website and taking the time to read the newsletter! If you have any questions at all you can email me at [email protected] or message me at Class Dojo!
