As we head into the 2nd Marking Period's midpoint one thing that stands out to me in our classroom is the improvement in reading from every student. In November we started our read at home program through the 100 Book Challenge. Thank you to all of the parents who promptly signed and returned the contract. Our parents have 100% participation and that says a lot about why these students are having so much success in school this year!
Currently in Language Arts we are really working hard on expanding our vocabulary. During our 100 Book Challenge time the students are finding words that they don't understand and using context clues to come up with a possible definition to those words. When I meet with the students individually we discuss those words so that they become a part of their growing vocabulary.
The students continue to love Prodigy both at school and at home! Recently everyone completed an assignment on Prodigy to show off their new division skills. The "big idea" of the current Math unit is that the students learn the relationship between multiplication and division. Our classroom goal is to have this skill mastered before Winter Break so that when we return in January we'll begin our big unit on Fractions!
